Wondering if anybody can help.

I run groups for preschool children, and am wondering about the legality (or otherwise) of reading from story books during our sessions.

What we'd like to do is read a story each week, as part of the activity session. The group is educational, focussing on children's developing speech and language skills. Parents pay to attend each week.

I'm hoping that this counts as fair dealing - because of the educational aspect, and that we would not be infringing copyright. We are not a school however, (although some sessions may be in school, preschool, or children's centre settings), so I'm wondering if that makes a difference.

Could anybody help me with regards where we stand legally in terms of reading from published material? Or does anybody know where we could go to get expert advice on the matter?

You're using the book as an educational tool not as a performance like a play etc you're absolutely fine to read aloud. The only issue would be if you wanted to use photocopies of any of the content or text.

Oh and sorry I should add that I assume you're not planning on recording any of the sessions as that would breach copyright.
