Abusive mother in law

Don't really know where to start with this post, my Mil is a very strong willed woman, it's her way or no way, a brutally honest woman which please don't get me wrong I have upmost respect for anyone who is honest but she is honest to the point where it's humiliating in front of a group of people. She has always been very controlling over my partner, although me and Mil had a very good relationship once upon a time I now think this was part of the control against her son ?(as crazy as that may sound) because is it really normal for a mil to slag her son of to you and tell you some of his secrets ? Anyway my partner has always had quite a temper although it's much better now; we think the temper stemmed from his childhood when his mother used to beat him with a belt, she never really praised him or showed much love. He is very insecure and has always felt his not good enough, basically on New Years ever the mil and sil fed my 3 month old Son solid food when he had not been weaned yet, my partner was fuming at this and confronted his mum to which she got defensive and said things like " oh I used to let people feed you anything even wine on your dummy " and " she is my baby as well " One thing led to another it got very nasty and heated between them both, mil went on to say how awful his temper is and how he won't ever change to which my partner said well actually I am seeking help and a lot of it stems from when you used to beat me with the belt, !!! She then blocked his number and we have not heard anything ever since! It's been about 2 years now since we last spoke to them, his great Grandad has even been in hospital ill and no one told my partner! Trouble is I think his whole family are too afraid to confront mil as she is very over powering, convincing and vindictive. I keep getting sad thinking my poor son won't know who's daddy's family are ? Should I feel bad ?? What should I do? Any advice would be appreciated thank so much xxxx
