Hi all
We are considering a VW caravelle as our estate is just not big enough for us.
Anyone got any experience of one and would like to share?
Wink

I love ours.
It's a long wheel base with 6 seats so not a full caravelle but perfect for us. Was there anything you wanted to know particulary?

I have one, but it's been converted to a camper. I've also had one as a curtesy car when mines been at the garage.

I've got the 2.5TDi, it's great, apart from the road tax
Good visibility especially when reversing
Good MPG
Great acceleration, but you have to slow down on roundabouts a bit more
Not too difficult to park, sliding door means you don't need to leave much room at sides.

It's slightly bumpy ride if you are right at the back.

Ooooo thank you for your posts.
I suppose I just wanted to hear if it 'worked' for your family/lifestyle?! We only test drove one and I am really excited to get one as everything is going to be so much easier I think. It's nice to hear that you both like yours!

yep, it's great.

we have the long wheel base one which is called transporter.

but I hate the electric doors, they keep breaking.

one got completely broken in the winter - it froze in and anyway it would cost about £350 to fix, so we just had the electric bit disconnected.
much better.

not read thread, but will do - any other questions just let me know

Hi sparklestar! Watching with interest, just started looking at these, was fairly set on an s max but then discovered caravelle! Yet to test drive though or even get to a dealership but they look massive! I have some queshtions to add on thread!!
Could they be too big? We have two dc and third due dec, eldest will be nearly 6 by then, second is 3 so all still quite little and require pushchair, stuff, more stuff, etc etc.
I wonder how they are to drive in the snow? Last winter quite awful where we are and dh has a 4wd that we would prob trade in towards the new car but he wouldn't have got to work without the 4wd some days! We don't live in a rural area either! Also have a smaller run about for dh and I would manly has the big car if not walking to school etc we plan more trips/hols in uk so thought would be good to have something like a caravelle.

I know two families who have had theirs for years - and done very high mileage in them. Never heard them complain about them (apart from the obvious size issue re parking and narrow lanes). One family (big family) have two - one old and one newer - so they must have been happy enough with the old one to invest in a newer model too.
