Struggling for names for the new baby...

All 5 of ours have been surprise babies, so for each one we have picked a girls name and a boys name. Also for each one we have picked 2 fresh names and have never carried on over to the next child.

So in total we have chosen out 10 of the best names, and now need to pick another 2, and OMG we dont even have any suggestions to add to the think bank... LOL

Did you have the same dilemas, or have you always known what you were going to call your kiddies??

Ahh - how old is your baby Rilith?
COngratulations!

Is it a boy or a girl?

We've always had definite names - but I'm not surprised you've run out of good names for baby number 6!

I don't suppose you want to divulge the names of your others but if you don't mind please tell us.Grin

I only have 3, didn't know sex before they were born, chose boy and girl name and like you never recycled any, with 1 and 3 I was totally sure about their names, 2 not so much but think it suits him (dh's choice Smile)
not sure how you pick names 11 and 12! any ideas? its funny because you'll know so many more children now which have possibily ruled so many out!

Misfitless I am 25 weeks PG with no6, but have no names at all in the think tank. and we have no idea of flavour either so need to come up with a boys name and a girls name too

My kids names are
Robert Thomas
Steven Alexander
Holly-Marie
Tara Elizabeth
& Theodore Michael John (but we call him Teddy)

So we dont want any obscure names, but nothing too popular either.

Lovely names!

I wouldn't consider it "recycling", but we've tended to have rather long name lists (5-10 names) at the end of a pregnancy and pick from that once they're born, and then continuously change the list until it's needed (We also write fiction, so have name banks - keeping the ones we'd use in real life seperate!). I've found behindthename.com good for playing around with names.

Nymbler.com might also work well for you - you can put in the names of the other kids and it will give you names of similar backgrounds and popularities.

We have had to choose for 6DC. When it came to DD4 we just could not agree on a name, so, from about 2 weeks before I expected to go into labour we had a list and decided to plan a "rota". So If I went into labour on Monday, a girl would be called Grace, Tuesday - Helena, Wednesday - Lydia, Thursday - ........ (we had a boys name, had just run out of girls!) We started off with a short list of 6, but as the day came, if I thought "oh I dont really want the baby born today, I would prefer a different name", that name was removed from the list. We weedled it down and a few days before she was born we were totally decided on just one girls name. I know we chose the right name. I think now it is probably my favourite name out of all my DCs.

John would go nicely with your other names, as would Jessica.

I do know what you mean, I had 3 girls already, 2 of the girls names I loved, one that DH was very keen on so if my 4th had been a girl we'd have chosen one we were both Ok with but didn't love that much (Sadie or Katie). Luckily we'd carried over DS's name from the first child and we still loved it.

John is the FIL's name.. hence why teddy has it as a middle name. If this one is a girl we only have to think of a 1st name cus her middle names will be after her grandmothers.

we think we have picked... but everyone will have to wait 11 more weeks to find out :p

It's so hard isn't it? I've got 2 DS's and I'm pg with twins. We found out yesterday that they are boy / girl so whereas girl names are new territory for us, we're back agonising over boys names for the third time!

We always found out what we were having though, so at least that narrowed down the agonising!

I wouldn't have a brand new set of names every time!

I've chosen 3 boys' names and 3 girls' names (first+middle names), and I will use them in order (not likely to get more than 3 now at my old age...)

so, can you revisiit some of your original options?

I love Jessica - can't use it for a child as had a chicken by that name.
ditto Erica
(this was when I'd resigned myself to being crazy chicken lady all my life)

DD1 - didn't find out sex 'til birth - boys name sorted, girls name kept flipping between two from very early on.
DD2 - didn't find out sex 'til birth - boys name sorted (same as DD1 boy's name), girls name sorted very early on.
DD3 - found out sex at 20 wks - boys name (fresh one) and girls names sorted since before then.
DD4 - found out at 20 wks -boys name (fresh fresh one) sorted since before then but we really had to concentrate on finding first and middle name once we realised we couldn't use the boy names. It was really difficult as we'd already used 6 girls names and wanted two more. It took us a long time esp. as we couldn't use similar names to the existing names e.g. I wanted Georgiana for DD4 but couldn't due to DD1 having an -ana ending.

I am perfectly happy to recycle names. Good luck naming.
