Can I ask a (probably stupid) question about pensions...

I've just discovered that I've got an old employee pension that I didn't know I had - trouble is I don't know what company it was I worked for. Changed jobs numerous times over the last 30 years - been freelance and full-time. If the statement says policy start date is 1997 - can I match that to my P60's/CV to get an idea who my employer was?

Sure I guess but why do you need to know? However you found out if you just contact the pension provider and give your new address they should send you the details? Prob need your ni number dob I would think.

If you have a statement I assume it has the provider name on it? Just write to them. As Damia said, name, address (you'll need to prove it 2 utility bills), NI number and signature. If your name has changed you'll need to send marriage certificate too.

and if you decide you'd like more transparency / visibility of it you could always transfer the holdings across to the Peoples pension, all available online & you can change the investments at the click of a button (much like online banking), management fee is 0.5%, worth comparing to the existing plan.
