Which funds to invest in?

I'm opening a fund and share savings account for my DS. I know that stocks and shares savings accounts generally tend to perform better long term, however I have NO idea which funds to invest in... anyone have any idea which ones are performing quite well or are worth investing in? TIA

This is like asking how long is a piece of string - there are so many different funds out there, each with their own risk.

Do some research, some of the fund supermarkets have a lot of info on their website. We use Hargreaves Lansdown, but there are others.

Whatever you choose, do drip feed the money in monthly, rather than a lump sum, as this smooths out the peaks and troughs of the stock market. Also maybe select a few different funds, as this spreads the risk.

I regularly read the financial sections of the papers for ideas. There's plenty online. I like citywire.co.uk/money, uk.finance.yahoo.com/ and www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/index.html.
