Should I transfer old private pension into Local Government Scheme?

I wonder if anyone can help - I have recently started a new job with the local government and have the option to transfer my old (pretty small) private pension into it. I also have another old pension from a job I did about 20 years ago, which is also pretty small, but I could also transfer that in too.

Does anyone know if it's generally a good idea to transfer them, or not? I've requested transfer statements and the private pension doesn't charge any transfer fee, and the other one has given me a figure but not stated if there's a transfer fee involved, so I've emailed back to ask.

Would be grateful for any advice going - am totally clueless and quite worried about how I'm actually going to live once I hit 67 (if indeed I'm still alive).

Yes!

I guess there are sums you can do. However my experience is that the more you are able to stash away in a Local Government scheme the better. Index linked! Plus enhanced payments if you get made redundant after the age of 55. Widowers benefits etc.

I don't know about your transfer question. However, have you checked how much state pension you'll get?
