Hi I'm just wondering if anyone is or has been through the same experience as me I had went nearly 2 years no period (after stopping the pill)I finally got the courage to talk to someone about my problems went to the doctors start of December they wanted me to get my bloods done so once I did that the rang me I thought it was my results they told me I needed to go back in for another lot as they needed more blood I did that they rang me week after and told me I had high prolactin and I'd need a mri they said February is the soonest I would be seen I went for my mri Tuesday they said I'd get my results within 2 weeks I was wondering what medication are they likely to give me ? And can you get pregnant on them/if so how soon ? I'm so nervous I just don't know what to expect has anyone had, going through or know much about high prolactin would mean a lot if you could comment or message me

I had high prolactin on a few blood test results. I had ivf though due to mfi and got pregnant first round so the prolactin didn’t make any different to the outcome of ivf not sure of natural conception though

I know someone who got pregnant with high prolactin. I think they took tablets to get the hormone levels down so periods returned, then once safe to do so, came off them to TTC. I’m not 100% sure whether they came off the tablets whilst TTC or just when actually pregnant. They conceived naturally without IVF.

@Coco12ha I had high prolactin in my first blood tests and they suggested I might need a scan if they stayed high but also said prolactin can raise due to stress and fear of injections which I definitely have both of!

In my third round of blood tests it was back to normal levels. The frustrating thing was that they wouldn’t refer me onto fertility treatment until that point.

The research I did at that time said the possibility was a prolactinoma which can be reduced using medication which could lead to you getting pregnant without needing any treatment.

My understanding was that if levels were consistently high it might indicate an issue but if they go up and down it’s more likely to be stress related

Hi @Coco12ha I’m the same, have just had diagnosis of high prolactin but waiting list for endocrinologist is 6-8weeks where I am (even for Urgent cases as I’ve been referred as). What was your result? My prolactin level is 1155 but I can’t find any info on what that really means! Wonder has anyone had similar?

Hi @Coco12ha and @LittleChicken11. I had consistently high prolactin levels (700-900) and was told I had to get it checked it out before any IVF treatment could start.
I was referred to an endocrinologist who recommended having an MRI scan to rule out a prolactinoma (tumour in the pituitary gland). Scan was fine so I was prescribed me 0.25mcg of Cabergoline twice a week which brought the levels down to 1.

After my egg collection and 2 failed FET transfers I was advised by my current fertility specialist to stop the Cabergoline completely as he said my prolactin levels were too low. We didn’t do any more blood tests so I can’t say what the level went to but we just got our first BFP after a 3rd FET without any medication.

I now wonder if the prolactin only levels needed to be low just for egg collection.

High prolactin here too, picked up by initial bloods by GP, my fertility clinic then referred me for a MRI. This came back clear and I wasn’t put on medication as I was ovulating.

Three rounds of IVF, 7 embryo transfers and I now have a 7mo DD. It took a whole, my prolactin was never really mentioned, it was possibly stress making it high but my consultant said it was “just one of those things that irons itself out eventually”

I was worried that it would mean I wouldn’t get success but thankfully I did!

Wishing you all the best
