Thin endometrium?

Been TTC for a year and a half with no success and was referred to a specialist following the usual tests. All the tests came back normal and just had my first appointment with the gynaecologist. I noticed that when I had the scan, the endometrium thickness was 4mm for day 7 in my cycle. Does anyone have baseline normal figures? I'm thinking this is on the low side, but no one has brought it up, so it could be me looking for an answer where there is none.

I noticed my periods have changed a lot since my twenties (now 32)- used to be really heavy but now last for 2 days max and are quite light.

Any tips on what can I do to boost it if it is on the low side??

hi, I didn't want to read and run, I don't have an answer but am keen to see replies, as my periods have changed dramatically too since I was younger (im also nearly 32) and periods last the same as yours, 2 days max. I have a HSG on 6th February which will be cycle day 9 for me, so hoping to see what my lining is, but I agree it sounds thin and expecting to see the same on my scan!x

Hi Morpho. After a good bit of googling there are variable numbers thrown up, ideal thickness is above 8mm, but it depends on where you are in your cycle and it can range from 2mm to something like 16mm.

As for treatments to thicken the lining, there are a few suggestions, like vitamin E, or acupuncture (depends on your stance on alternative therapies I suppose) but I think a lot of the interventions are pharmaceutical, like oestrogen supplements.

I'm going to bring this up with the gynae when I next see him, perhaps I could supplement with oestrogen before going through IVF, but I'm not sure if that's possible. He was keen to get started on it in the next couple of months, but I'd like to avoid IVF for the moment if I can.

True 8mm refers to after ovulation. The optimal thickness for implantation.

At day 7 you wouldn't expect a thick lining because it's only just starting to build up again after your period.

I only ever got to around 6.5/7mm post ovulation and so I've done a lot of research and tried a lot of things!

If it does turn out it's thin post ovulation then the only thing that seemed to make a difference for me was Accupuncture. My lining was over 8mm the cycle I had Accupuncture, and it was also the cycle we conceived after 2 failed rounds. Obviously no way of telling if that was what actually helped, but if you can afford it then I'd say give it a go!
