Seeking specialist to help with low AMH and fibroids

Hi there,

Am looking for a specialist or specialists (if I have to see more than one person I will) - ideally based in London pls - who can help me with my low AMH and fibroids. If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it as I am seriously at my breaking point on this issue - writing this in near tears at my desk at work.

I am 36 and looking to start process of trying to conceive, however, seriously worried about my chances.

I was told last year that I have a low AMH (everything else apparently fine), got tested for this and every other fertility indicator hormone as my periods began to seriously act up and fearful was going into early pre-menopause. The fibroids, which I have known about for three years, have been wreaking serious havoc on my periods over the past year. I have gone from having one period once a month like clockwork to now never knowing when my period will come, having periods that last weeks (record is one month) and having multiple week long periods in one month.

This has made trying to conceive a nightmare as I have no clue when I am fertile. I would love to find someone that can help firstly regulate my periods - ideally by finding a treatment for the fibroids causing my nightmare periods that is non invasive as possible to maintain chances of conception. Then, or concurrently, resolve the low AMH levels to increase m chances of natural conception.

Unfortunately low AMH levels can't be "resolved" - yes they can fluctuate month to month but you can't really increase it by much.
What is your AMH level??
I would concentrate on removal of the fibroids and then move on to IVF ASAP with a clinic specialising in low AMH (try Create)
You could try taking supplements like C0q10 and a really good pre conception mix of vitamins (like Proceive Max)

Agree with the above- low amh means low egg supply- and you can’t increase the number of eggs you have left- it’s impossible.

However, you can do something about egg quality - supplements etc as you only need one good egg to conceive. Good luck.

Yes, have you considered CoQ10 or ubiquinol?

Thanks very much for the responses on this.
From what I recall my AMH was about 2, Google research I did, as NHS doctor said there's no conclusive idea of what is and isn't low, is that for my age it should be more around 6/7.

I will deffo look into supplements to increase egg quality as you're it only takes one egg and that's the key issue women struggle with as they age.

Been trying to resolve the fibroids issue but been through the NHS treadmill that goes nowhere. Been a year of having to fight for a referral to gyno, getting a referral and then being told there's nothing that can be done as it's not serious enough and only option to deal with period issue is to take contraceptives. This is why I am now looking for a specialist who might be able to be more useful as I am fed up of the NHS tbh.

Size and location of fibroids are important when dealing with them as a possible cause of infertility. Most fibroids (medium sized or smaller) will have no impact on ability to get pregnant. Submucosal fibroids or fibroids at the fundus (top of the uterus) May have an impact on an embryo to implant.

There is absolutely no way to remove/reduce fibroids to have a positive impact on fertility without significant and invasive treatment (consider that a common treatment for women finished having children is a hysterectomy).

What have you done to try to pinpoint ovulation? It would be a good use of your efforts to use all available tools to do try tracking, as the evidence is mixed about the impact on amh and fibroids affecting the ability to conceive.

I have a low AMH level and small fibroids - we we had been TTC for two years with no luck. We were referred for IVF and finally conceived. We have been DTD unprotected since his birth which was 09/17 and haven't managed to conceive. I'm not saying it's impossible but it could take time so my advice is to start the IVF process asap. I completely agree with the NHS being a nightmare in the gynae dept. I still haven't seen a gynae and have been trying to get in for years. My IVF consultant helped me the most with the tests etc.
All the best.

I have yet to get full confirmation on this as the NHS so far has been woeful so awaiting inverstigation from a second opinion which won't be until May from the specialists at St Mary's Paddington - which are meant to be the best in the country.

From initial investigation fibroids are not big - about 3-5cm - one apparently isn't fully emerged but a small nub on the side of my womb and the other is higher up at the top of the uterus. Interesting what you said @physicskate because that was the one I was told to completely ignore!

I have been tracking my periods for the past two years since my periods starting going crazy. They're so bad now though that even the period tracker app is unable to say when my period is or is not coming.

Good to hear your thoughts about AMH as that is what made me get really fearful.

@vinoblanco1 thanks for your comment - yes the NHS unfortunately really is lacking in the gynae dept. Every appointment has left me in complete tears and pain and still clueless as to what next steps could/should be.

Would you mind sharing where you were referred for IVF pls?
