Can a small polyp cause infertility?

Hi,

As per the question, can 1 or 2 small polyps in the uterus cause infertility? They were picked up in a hysteroscopy but not seen during an ultrasound or TVS. Has anyone had any success of getting pregnant after getting small ones removed? All other tests we have had done have been clear.

I’m convinced my small polyps were the reason for my three years of infertility and miscarriage. I think there is some evidence that can irritate the womb lining and affect implantation. Polyps are always removed before IVF for this reason. I would ask about getting them removed. Mine were removed during a procedure for my second miscarriage and I got pregnant 4 months later.

Thank you for replying. That must have been wonderful for you after the years of bad luck. I am getting them removed but won't be until after Xmas now. Just hoping that it's the cause for us...The uncertainty is so hard. I wish they could just tell us what was wrong and then be able to treat it!

I had polyps that we’re removed during a hysteroscopy, and was pregnant within two months. It ended in an ectopic though, and we went down the IVF route, but that wasn’t polyp or removal related.

My polyps caused irregular bleeding, which I was told could have interfered with conception as they limit implantation possibilities, but we’ll never know for sure as the ectopic left me with one tube so never got to properly compare before and after TTC.

I had polyps removed after having one child during a hysteroscopy. I have since had another child, and am currently pregnant again.
I had no idea they could cause infertility/miscarriages, noone mentioned this. I went to the doctor as I was having bleeding between periods.
I have infact had several early miscarriages, but it hadn't occurred to me until now that the polyps could have been the cause.

Sorry that first sentence sounds like my first child was born during a hysteroscopy?!?

It did, Zest, thank you! I am currently 9 weeks pregnant :) Still a lot of hurdles to jump but I’m feeling positive.

Should also say that once the polyps were removed I didn’t get any more mid cycle bleeding, and my periods were slightly lighter and more comfortable, so there can be non fertility benefits too.

The uncertainty is so crappy isn’t it? Fingers crossed for you :)

Yes, most definitely! It caused my infertility (which really was many very early miscarriages at day1 or 2 because the polyp was the size of my womb, no space to attach. It took about 6 months to fall pregnant from then. The further 4 times I fell pregnant were at the first go at 35 +

Hahaa about a child during hysteroscopy! reassuring the removal cleared up the irregular bleeding. Been going to the gp for yonks about it and kept being told It was normal for me...was starting to believe them!

And I'm up thank you for your reply...can't believe how big that was. Definitely goes to show it was the reason for your difficulties with how easy it was all thosr times after its removal!
