Infertility

coenzyme Q10 and DHEA

I have a raised FSH and therefore likely diminished ovarian reserve but we have to go for IVF due to male factors.

I’ve done a bit of reading on co enzyme Q10 and DHEA but I’m getting mixed reviews.

Has anyone taken these supplements or spoken to the specialist about the proms and cons of taking them?

Thank you!

Yep. What's your fsh?

I took ubiquinol for a bit (concentrated co enzyme). Meant to be v good for improving egg quality. My fsh was 12 when I got it tested at 34 and my amh proved low ovarian reserve.

I asked the clinic about dhea- they said they didn't recommend it. Think it's pretty controversial but has had some good results having said that.

DHEA can be horrendous for side effects. Be careful. Do your research.

CoQ10/ ubiquinol is not harmful as it is in every single one of your cells already. Again, do your research to make sure it's right for you. Some brands really did a number on my stomach, but I suspect it was the filler used in the tablet, not the CoQ10 itself.

Thanks guys. That’s pretty much concluded what I was thinking. I have my appointment with the consultant on Tuesday to find out my AMH so I will ask then too. but fsh is pretty much 12 and I’m 31 so not really expecting good news for the AMH!

My clinic didn't recommend any supplements other than Vit D and folic acid. However prior to my second ICSI cycle, up to egg collection I took ubiquinol (COQ10) and extra Vit D (in an oil format). After that I just stayed on Pregnacare conception that I'd been taking for years (was trying for a while!)

The second cycle was successful but had changed a lot of variables from the first cycle so cannot definitively say that the COQ10/extra Vit D helped the BFP but I saw no harm in taking it up to EC. I'd take these again in the lead up if I decided to do another cycle.

My AMH was 13 something- I can't remember what my FSH was. So on the low side but not a disaster. I didn't consider DHEA so I cannot help with that one I'm afraid.

I’d be careful with dhea- it’s serious stuff that should only be taken under medical supervision in prescribed doses.

Otherwise, q10, multivitamins etc all lovely stuff.
