Tell me about fibroids

Just had my first ovarian tracking scan. First clomid cycle after they found polycystic ovaries and my cycles are a bit irregular. They found a fibroid. I’m gutted. Yet another thing that’s ‘wrong’ with me.

So I turn to the font of wisdom that is this forum: what do I need to know and what should I ask at my next scan??

Sorry you've had a run of bad news, Kate. From what I understand, fibroids are quite common and can have a wide range of impact on fertility. It depends very much on the size and location of the fibroid (where in the womb, and whether it's on the inside, middle, or outer layer of the womb.) If they didn't tel you that, I'd ask at the next scan and if they think it's messing about with your TTC. Hope the clomid tracking was at least alright. X

I’ve got about 12 fibroids - totally depends where they are and what size as to whether they cause an issue or not. What have they told you so far?

I had one some while back. Disappeared of its own accord.

Yep it totally depends on where / type. I had a huge fibroid discoverer in a fertility scan that didn’t stop me from getting pregnant but grew to 10cm (and did cause me some pain) when pregnant. However no issues with delivery although I had to be on a drug (the one they use for induction) after labour to make sure the uterus went back to normal afterwards. I can’t temember the name for mine but it grows on a stalk - in short, it might not have any impact on either your fertility or any major issues with delivery, but it might be a bit of a pain..

She didn’t say much but seemed surprised it wasn’t mentioned at my scan a few months ago when they found the pco.

Will find more on Wednesday at my next tracking scan. Thanks ladies. I’m gutted that again it’s ME who has an issue! Seriously you can’t make odds for all the weird issues I’ve had!!

Most fibroids don’t impact natural conception but some might do. In any case if you’re going to go for IVF then they will want to remove those in your lining no matter the size as it could impact implantation.
