Serum Clinic Athens - has anyone been?

I've tried and failed to get the grips with the fertility friends website so just thought I'd ask on here whether anyone has visited the Serum Clinic in Athens? DH and I are seriously considering going there for IVF in January. They seem to be clued up on the male side of things (our main issue) and money wise it is much more affordable to us than clinics in the UK - I do not live in England, where I live our drugs are funded so that is an extra cost we don't need to take into account. We probably wouldn't go out for an initial consultation (they have agreed this would be OK) and just go straight out for treatment. So any reviews, positive or negative would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Hi, I haven't been to Serum but I did have (successful) treatment at AKESO which is also in Athens and can not recommend it highly enough. If you want more information let me know, you can find their website here: www.mtsirigotis.gr/en/home.html

Thanks Sparrow - I will have a look. Have to say, so far I have been impressed with Serum. What is Athens like as a place? We will have our 5 year old in tow. I've read it's a bit run down...

I love Athens, but I am a bit biased as I lived there in 2003/4.

There are run down areas but this is the same as every city, I have noticed it looking a little more tired round the edges but nothing that would stop me going back or enjoying time there.

The area where Serum is is not far from the AKESO where I went for treatment. There is a metro stop called 'Panourmou' and this is a nice place to stay while you are there. It is only 15 mins metro into the centre of the city (or you can walk) and has shops/supermarkets etc so you don't need to go central everyday to eat/shop. There are lots of places on AirB&B in this area too.

I spent a lot of time researching clinics in Athens and read a lot about Serum, but chose AKESO as my friend in Athens had also had successful treatment and recommended it to me.

Thanks Sparrow that's really helpful - the thought of IVF is daunting enough without it being in a totally new country as well! How long ago was your successful cycle of you don't mind me asking?

Not at all..I went to Athens in March this year, due in December Smile

If you need any more advice on Athens please just ask and I will try to help. It is daunting but I actually enjoyed (!) my time there, despite all the scans and needles.

Congratulations :) was it your first go at IVF? Sorry if I'm being too nosy! I haven't had a chance to look into your clinic yet but am intending to later.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I was actually on holiday in Greece for the last two weeks Smile

It was my first go at IVF yes, so even though the clinic were amazing I do consider myself to be lucky as well for it to work first time. Although we were a fairly straightforward case as neither DH or I have any big fertility issues.
