Zoladex for endometriosis before IVF-anyone have any experience of this?

I'm hoping to get some advice before my next hospital appointment.

I've recently had a laparoscopy and was told straight after that I had endometriosis and the only chance of getting pregnant was IVF. The doctor also said that they were going to put me on Zoladex for 3 month first.

My next appointment isn't for another 6 weeks so I've been researching Zoladex as much as I can and I can't see any why they would put me on this. As far as I can see it doesn't stop the endometriosis, it only halts it for the period you're having the injections, so surely it would be better to go straight into IVF.

Has anyone had any experience with this injection and/or know the reason for having this before IVF?

Thanks you!!

Hi,

That's pretty much the same scenario as me, they do it to 'shut down' your reproductive system and give it a chance to recover so hopefully it'll be in a much healthy state to undergo IVF.

I know it's frustrating and you're probably keen to get the ball rolling with regards to trying but I would imagine your consultant has chosen this path for you for a reason.

I was on the injections for 6 months and started IVF last month - if you have any questions fire away Smile

Hi tapdancingpimp, thank you for your reply.

You're right it is so frustrating as I've been on so many drugs already, but if that's the reason then it does make sense. I'll have to come to terms it's another few months I have to wait!

How did you find the injections? Did you also take HRT with them? I've read a few horror stories so I'm pretty nervous!

Good luck with the IVF, fingers crossed for you xx

Thank you Smile

The injection itself was fine. I found the first month the hardest, hot sweats and disturbed sleep. Other than that I was ok and the side-effects seemed to wear off following my next dosage.

No HRT for me.

Did they mention why IVF was your only option? I had (have) blocked tubes so natural conception is highly unlikely for me.

From what I can remember (I was still pretty groggy from the anaesthetic) they said my ovaries were covered in endometriosis and tucked behind something. I'll get more information when I have my follow up appointment I hope.

That's great news you didn't have any of the other horrible side effects I've read about, and without HRT.

Let me know how you get on with IVF, all the best. Thanks again for the advice xx

Hi Tapdancingpimp, sorry, one more question! How long did you have to wait after the injections before you stated IVF?

Thank you!

So sorry I'm only seeing this now!!

I had my first injection at the beginning of May and started IVF in Feb this year - my period hadn't returned but consultant wasn't surprised by this so I assume it was normal Smile

My last 3-month dose of injection was mid September.
