Surely 'deferred' indicates that they will at some point actually pass it?? ooops - perhaps we're not allowed to say 'pass' either - as that indiciates failure................

kids are not stupid they will know that deferred success means fail. Just as everyone knows that the GCSE's that everyone can pass mean bugger all if under a C grade.

We need to stop pampering these kids, they need to know they are good at some things and crap at others. that is the way of the world.

I think deferred success is OK if you are clear about what it actually means. ie, you can re-take and succeed at a second go.

It is valid alongside failure, not replacing it. Failure can be character building as well.
