I can't bloody believe this!! I read this article and then promptly had a massive rant at my DH. Why should this woman be allowed a new identity after the atrocities she committed? And what's more, why should we have to fund it? I am disgusted that our tax dollars are going to help hide and protect this woman. I bloody irate about this!!

Because once she has served her time there will be idots out there who would try to attack her.

Much as I am disgusted about her actions i don't think it's a good thing for people to be have as vigilantes.

Typical Daily Mail BTW.

Ooohh LBAM - "tax dollars", I guess I've outed myself as Canadian didn't I?

DF - I agree that people shouldn't act as vigilantes but it really bothers me that she should be protected while those children were not. If she wishes to change her identity, then fine - but that should be done at her expense and not ours.

I think you may be premature, the first three words of the second paragraph and 'Help to move abroad CAN be considered...' indicate that this is Daily Mail propaganda.

But, vigilante justice is not a good thing.

I didn't realise it was a Daily Mail article PLIMLS until after I had posted about it. I wasn't aware that using the nickname I am using prohibited me from reading or discussing their articles. Many thanks for drawing my attention to this. I shall endeavor to do better in future.

I must admit, I do not read the dm that often, so I did not read it as standard dm propaganda. I sincerely hope that is all it is. I'll move abroad before I will allow my taxes to fund her anonymity.

It is only a matter of time before people start (well, they probably have already started) Facebook groups along the lines of 'Let's kill that Plymouth paedophile b*tch' or 'When she gets out she should have her house burned down'

That is why she will get a new identity.

If she gets a new identity. Nothing is certain.

She is going to prison for a long time first.

It does make it funny (well, OK, mildly amusing) when you do.

I assumed you'd have a sense of humour about that. My bad, clearly.

It doesn't sit comfortably with me either. Our taxes have paid for Maxine Carrs new identity, plastic surgery for Tracey Andrews and no doubt many more besides.

I think our taxes would be better spent to give new identities to her poor DDs who are old enough to know exactly what their mother has done, are probably wondering if they were abused as small children and getting all kinds of abuse shouted at them for something their mother has done.

They are the forgotten victims in all this horrible mess

It will cost a great deal more when someone ends up being prosecuted and imprisoned for her later murder surely?
IF she is ever released, and IF she survives prison.
By no means condoning vigilantism and can't imagine how devastated the parents are, but I do get irritated by this "righteous" anger expressed with no factual basis.

You're right teamcullen. I would be more than happy for our taxes to protect and shelter her children. I cannot imagine the difficulties they are going to face growing up.

Righteous anger clemette? No offense intended, but it is hardly righteous anger. I simply cannot stomach the idea of protecting this woman when the victims are not given the same right.

LOL about my name, I did previously have the name WestCountryLass but am now middle aged and no longer lass like so went with SHA as I am a saggitariun, a middle aged one feeling the effects of gravity (but am not very hairy).

We live in a society that has made a collective decision to rehabilitate offenders once they have served their sentences (if they are released and there is no guarantee she ever will be). It is impossible to understand the mindset and motivation of paedophiles but, like it or not, they are still entitled to this protection.
If it is not righteous anger, what would you rather happen (bearing in mind that it would COST a great deal more to keep her in prison forever)?

To be honest clemette, I would be quite happy for her to remain in prison for the rest of her life. And yes, I do realise how much this costs the penal system and in turn the tax payers. For me personally, the cost of keeping her incarcerated is not the issue. At lease with her in prison, there is one less pedophile on the streets. That is just my opinion though.

Fair enough, but I'm sure there will be someone else complaining about the costs of keeping her in a "comfy" prison and how she ought to be strung up...

Yes you are probably right. I do see both sides of the argument and I can understand why there is a need to protect her - I just can't say I agree with that need.
