Whazt I don't get is, how do they know for certain it was from the jar? Maybe the child had just picked it up from the floor.

mrsJ - I think NN was making the point that the DM had unnecessarily pointed out that the mum was at work, and NN was indirectly saying that this is typical dm mysoginy.

I think atlantis is referring to the Daily Mail's general hatred distrust of women -- it has a certain tendency to paint working mothers as selfish career-driven harridans and stay-at-home mothers as lazy good-for-nothing spongers. I don't actually think there's too much of that in this story, though.

It does seem rather unlikely that the child "nearly choked to death". To begin with, it sounds rather as though he gagged rather than choking at all, and it doesn't sound as though the plastic in question could have blocked his airway. Still not a good idea to have jagged bits of plastic in babyfood jars, of course, but I think parents have been bigging this up to the Daily Mail ever so slightly.

Yes that was my point, I'm too used to playing DM Bingo these days. Evil WOHM not cooking for her child etcetera.

DH also thinks the piece of plastic was on the floor and just hadn't been noticed but agree with JJs, good on the bloke for sorting it out - I was a bit harsh.
