who cares, most of us aren't american

Mamazon Thu 28-Aug-08 22:19:34

no but America is probably the most powerful nation on earth and the person who runs it DOES matter to us.

you just need to take the war in Iraq for instance.

i couldn't care less, i wish american politics would fuck off from our news

Callisto Fri 29-Aug-08 08:27:33

US politics is sooo much more exciting than UK politics and the candidate who becomes the next US president will have a huge effect on the whole world. Plus Barack Obama is hot wink.

Kerrymum - Hillary may well have 'kicked some DC ass' but sadly she is so corrupt and power hungry I doubt she would have been good for the US or the rest of the world.

KayHarker Fri 29-Aug-08 09:59:04

ugh. I clicked on BBC News this morning, and honestly, it was like a ruddy glamour spread on Obama. Height of tedium, and it's been going on for months. And the BBC coverage is the worst, you can almost hear the breathless tone in all the articles about him.

ilovemydog Fri 29-Aug-08 16:48:18

Am quite excited by the US Presidential election! smile

SqueakyPop Fri 29-Aug-08 16:49:29

I think it is pretty interesting

oi Fri 29-Aug-08 16:51:55

yup quite a lot of interesting foreign news atm, Georgia, US etc.

SqueakyPop Fri 29-Aug-08 16:59:38

Just saw on the BBC website - McCain has picked a young, female running mate. That should spice things up a bit.

ilovemydog Fri 29-Aug-08 17:09:53

she has a young family too. inspired choice for a man whose age may be a deal breaker hmm

but she's still a republician

TsarChasm Fri 29-Aug-08 17:21:18

Agree with OP. I wish they'd just tell us the end result. It just drags on and on.

They don't even know who our politicians are and yet we have to listen to every detail of theirs. Yaaawn.

Earlybird Fri 29-Aug-08 17:24:13

McCain VP choice is Mum of 5 children. Youngest has Down's.

EffiePerine Fri 29-Aug-08 17:28:17

I think it's a little shortsighted to not care about non-UK news. Let's face it, we don't do much that's interesting grin.

Anyway I enjoy election coverage, all that politicking and backstabbing <geek>

What's the alternative at the moment? Man rescues cat from tree?

ilovemydog Fri 29-Aug-08 19:28:41

Sarah Palin - had her youngest in April which puts a whole new hyper competitive spin as to what one did on maternity leave!

Still a republican though...

dooneygirl Fri 29-Aug-08 19:38:22

You don't have to worry about competitive maternity leave. We only get 6 weeks unpaid here.

Very clever of McCain to pick a woman. I'm sure he was thinking of all the bitter Hilary supporters he would win over by doing so.

Mummyofthreebeauties Fri 29-Aug-08 20:30:14

Just looked in to see what the view was on the republication vice president nomination which shows how sadly excited about the amercian election I am!

Originally I thought an inspired choice, but do the get he trawled the party to look for the most suitable women. Good luck to her though, I would still be lying in a dark room after having my fifth baby in April, and one with special needs.

KayHarker Fri 29-Aug-08 22:16:42

Actually, I've changed my mind and find myself kind of interested now. [fickle]

And yup, I'd probably vote Republican, but I'm a bit of a one issue voter if it's on the table. But I'm not American anyway, so whatever. Still more interested now, though.

msdemeanor Fri 29-Aug-08 22:19:35

THought it was a stunning, stunning coup. A brilliant choice. I think she's a frightening, dangerous, right-winger, but as a political decision, it was utterly inspired. Also very clever of her to praise Hillary, which makes Obama look stupid and jealous.

msdemeanor Fri 29-Aug-08 22:30:27

Oh fuck, she's a creationist. Fabulous. That's what the world needs.

Her oldest son is called Track and one of her daughters is called Bristol.

KayHarker Fri 29-Aug-08 22:32:59

Oh, is she? Marvellous? grin Oh, this is going to be fun!

Absolute political genius choice, though. McCain is Machiavelli.

KayHarker Fri 29-Aug-08 22:33:40

I've so spelled that wrong...

KayHarker Fri 29-Aug-08 22:35:04

grr, and there's a stray question mark, too. I think i should quit MN, my typing is getting worse.
