Blue Peter cat - I mean really, who cares?!

Is this really important? Do we really labour under the illusion that everyone who works in the media is completely above board and 100% honest at all times?

Of course the media aren't honest all the time. But this is Blue Peter we're talking about!! There ARE standards to be maintained

What makes me laugh is tat the production team cared enough about the name "socks" to veto the viewers' choice. Can you imagine the conversations in the office???

don't know about important but bizarre, certainly, i mean why on earth would you run a competition to name a stupid cat in the first place then ignore the perfectly normal cat name the kids choose so you can choose 'spot' or something instead. odd odd odd. these media types are a bit of a funny crowd

Maybe the moggy wouldn't answer to Cookie.

wordgirl · 20/09/2007 21:41

Cookie is a much better name than Socks anyway

lionheart · 20/09/2007 21:41

Then they should have called it rice-cake instead.

Hallgerda · 20/09/2007 21:42

What gets me is the fact they bought another cat just to use the name "Cookies" after they were found out. Not a great example to the viewers over buying pets for silly reasons, I thought.

What did they do with Socks?

Report
Hallgerda · 20/09/2007 21:44

I don't think Socks was done away with, lionheart - they just got another cat to give the right name to.

perhaps someone felt silly calling out something that sounded exactly like 'Kooky! Kooky'.

But that's the thing, Hallgarda, how can we know for sure the cat didn't get the sack?

We certainly can't trust them to tell us the truth.

Ahem, a friend of mine used to have a cat named Cookie. She said it was short for Cookin' fat. It was years before I realised what happened if you swapped the first letters round .

Hallgerda · 21/09/2007 10:02

lionheart, is your inner cat making you take this whole business too much to heart?

We'll probably find in the next twist to this sorry saga that both cats were CGI anyway.

apparently there was a late surge in votes for the name Cookie...which the production team thought was 'suspicious'
(according to Richard Bacon this morning on R4)

Rather bizarre though, I can't imagine which sinister forces they thought might have been behind such a surge and why...unless it was McVities or someone like that...

But this is vital stuff, this is the sort of stuff that should be on the news everyday

Instead of tittle tattle about Robert Mugabe
