6 year old girl distressed any crying "help me". She is heard saying don't put me in handcuffs, I don't want to go in the police car.

I cried proper tears listening to the audio on this video.

I cuddled my little girl extra tight tonight. How can something so hideous happen?

Why is no-one in the school protecting her?
Are there no child protection regulations in USA?

I feel that this is child abuse.

Yes, I read it today and was absolutely horrified...

WTF is wrong with America, handcuffing a 6-year-old..??!

I saw that on the BBC news app but I couldn't see the reason why she was arrested. I only saw a video clip of the arrest of about one minute. There wasn't really explanatory text. I was going to give a it a google.

I think the officer was fired. They need approval to arrest under 12. Florida is terrifying but don't mistake it for the whole country.

Arrested for misbehaving in class from what I read. Wtf was the teacher doing ringing the police? Officer Has been fired.

What a surprise that the poor child is black. Hmm

Other articles say she had a tantrum and was kicking and punching staff. Obviously staff shouldn’t be subjected to violence but the solution isn’t arresting tiny children.

Stories like this come out sporadically.

A while ago I read a lot about some of the things that we in UK find weird eg security guards in schools being called to subdue disobedient children often seemingly with disproportionate violence and with black children affected, also police coming and arresting little kids etc.

Pp says oh we don't know what she did. But she's a 6 to child in school. I couldn't bring myself to watch it but it certainly sounds that he handled her very roughly. And illegally.

I don't understand when something is clearly wrong, the inclination to say oh only one side of story, police wouldn't act for nothing etc. Taking this approach means bad things are allowed to happen.

I can not believe what I have just watched. They cable tied a 6 year olds hands behind her back and took her to the police station for misbehaving in class, and she's not the first child this has happened too?

Phillip DeFranco covered this on his YouTube channel - worth listening to hear about the laws regarding arrests of minors in the various states.

The video itself was awful to watch. The policeman was going on about how many arrests he's made, the youngest being 7, and this one's 'broken the record' because she's 6 Hmm The staff seemed fairly uncomfortable and timid - I think one tried to voice it but I guess you don't say no to the police in America?

In Florida there is no lower age limit for arrest, and although he should have got permission as she was under 12, he hadn't technically broken the law.

I'd fucking hang for him if he did that to my dd!

America bizarrely is starting to look closer to Saudi Arabia every day.

And like pp, I too guessed that she would be black....

Ironic thing is these are probably church-goers.

Of course the teachers couldn't speak up - they'd lose their jobs. Plus, they are black.

I just can't fathom the thought process that's taken place that lead someone to decide that the best way to deal with a six year old having a tantrum in school is to cable tie her wrists, take her to a detention centre, finger print her and take her mugshot. I just can't.

She's 6 years old for crying out loud!

Report
FATEdestiny · 26/02/2020 21:23

I cant get over the fact that noone seems to be protecting her, or advocating for her. She's 6 years old and dealing with a situation I - an experienced adult in her 40s - would feel frightened in. She seems to be facing being arrested and handcuffed on her own, without a parent or teacher or anyone caring for her.

Are there no child protection laws in Florida at all?

I saw that, I just knew she'd be a POC when I read it. I doubt a white 6 year old would be treated like that.

There was the case last week where a girl the same age was taken from school but police and committed for 3 days. The mum got a call from another parent and found out that way.

Police in the states are batshit. At least the other girls wasn’t cuffe.
