And I bet all the reports have something to do with exams being harder in the past, and too easy now - and results not meaning what they used to mean, etc. etc.

I gather the reporters could only be bothered to photograph one set of girls too - everywhere using same picture. Probably not even from this year, lol!

No I didn't cry or scream.

Results gone up again for the 25th successive year. Feck me - these kids are another bloody species, no?

Sorry Hula - but you're not telling me kids are just getting brighter adn brighter OR that teaching is that much better year on year. I'm not buying it.

Exam results almost always go up year on year, always have done. Same for most form of examination. Can you imagine the uproar if they didn't?

As teachers and pupils become more used to the different types of exam papers and routines exam results will always continue to rise. Having seen the amount of work many pupils put into A levels, and having seen the papers and coursework elements myself, and what is involve, then I don't really think A levels have gotten easier. They have changed certainly, their format is very different and no replicate real working life more, but easier, I am not so sure.

I just feel really sdorry for the poor kids taking these exams, working really hard and getting good grade s- for the poress to just rubbsih their efforts straight after.

And the same arguements have been being used since I did my A levels, somme 16 years ago! I think they probably use the same quotes as back then TBH!

What's the bloody point in so many people getting As?? Getting an A was a BIG deal years ago - for someone to get 3 As was a HUGE WOW. Not so now, it's like handing out sweets. Pointless.

I don't know though. In my year at school - at a particularly dodgy state school - there was always a good handful getting very high results of straight As, all As and Bs, etc. I don't think things have changed that much - apart from in selective type schools, but then I had no experience of those schools back then. I certainly remember people using exactly the same arguements and complaints about lowering of standards even 16 years ago.

There are lots of good valid academic reasons as to why exam results would (and should) go up year on year, and why a downward slide in results would be seen very negatively.

But I know not everyone would agree. Happy to agree to dsagree on stuff like this.
