Released today, John Smith's are putting on a 'People's Race' at Aintree on Grand National day. The race is to be run on the flat (no jumping involved) over 6 furlongs (three-quarters of a mile) and the horses will be ridden by members of the public after they have been subjected to an intesive 16 day course of instruction in race-riding. Each of the jockeys will receive £5,000 for their chosen charity with an extra £50,000 being given to the charity selected by the winner. The winning jockey will also receive a five-star trip to Dubai in March 2008 for the Dubai World Cup- the richest horse race in the world (in which they will not be expected to ride!) The charity race will be run in front of a crowd of 70,000 people, with worldwide viewing figures in the millions, so nerves of steel are required, but no previous riding experience necessary (apparently). So if any MNers out there are up to the challenge, you can apply online at www.johnsmiths.co.uk

A panel of racing experts will select the ten riders from the applicants. Go on, have a go!
