Eight year old boy raped.

MissMistletoe · 06/12/2006 18:11

While walking home from somewhere 'at around 5 p.m.' It's dark then. This always saddens me, why do some parents let very young children out on their own, and especially after dark? Apparently the rapist was a 20 something cyclist who dragged him into woods. Very sad. Poor boy.

Lots of people are not going to like this title....

Must admit, don't much like seeing it staring me in the face in active convos either even though I poo-pooed the OP on that thread (sorry Hunker).

In fact I didn't, because I agreed about titles.

Sorry, will stop bumping this now.

sad world where an 8 yr old cannot walk out at 5pm without being raped ffs
As if it was somehow his or his parents fault.

All that matters is that poor lad and what happened- don't you think the parents already will feel bad enough?

Only one person at fault here, the one on the bike. He was a complete fucking bastard. The rest are innocent.

laneydaye · 06/12/2006 19:17

of course it's the parents fault. he was asking for it...........

ffs think you should explain that!! themulled

TMSJ- ironic statement......bearing in mind the usual 'string em up / i blame the parents responses' to threads like this.

also...what a horrible title to see in active convos.

laneydayne, the face makes me feel that themulled wasnt agreeing with the original poster who stated 'why do some parents let very young children out on their own, and especially after dark'

Oh how bloody awful. It's NOT the boy's fault or his parents fault fgs.

I have had a hard day, not as hard as the parents of this poor child.

But I come here to escape RL not have it rammed down my throat. Will people please stop doing it.

Poor boy. I read this. The boy was 8 which isn't too young to walk the streets at 5pm, surely not the parents fault.

Report
Carmenere · 06/12/2006 19:29

I agree, if you must post it surely just say that the poor kid was assaulted, using the word raped unfortunately paints a vivid picture each time it gets to the top of active convos

what an awful thing to have happen to such a young child.

myrrhthamoo · 06/12/2006 19:33

Yes, I could have done without the title too.

And agree, 5pm is hardly late for an 8 year old to be walking home.

Lets hope that they get a DNA profile from the offender.

Poor lad , 2 yrs older then my eldest .

I dont understand this thing about titles -

horrible things happen in life - we cant get away from it.

if I hadnt had read about this in the paper then I would certainy like it bought ot my attention as its not far from where I am .

too right mummy dear
its our aversion to all things nasty that causes taboos -- dont want to hear about abuse so tuck ourselves away
we are the adults - this is life

The word "rape" is a dirty, and unspeakable for some people. Whilst I want to do all I can to change that fact, I can utterly understand why it hurts.

Please please PLEASE think, before posting thread titles like this?

THINK ABOUT THAT LITTLE BOY !!!

Right before this descends into total chaos can we recognise this for what it is. Recognition of the fact that a little boy out there has had to go through something totally unthinkable and with the help of a shell shocked family try and put the pieces of his life back together.

We cannot run away from these issues, much as we'd like to so we should always hit them head on. Yes rape is an uncomfortable word for some but not others and by keeping it a dirty word, that is exactly how it will remain.

This isn't about what titles you prefer to see, this isn't about what a bad day you've had and the escapism you'd rather experience, this is about sparing a thought for this family who are going through hell and hope they can find the strength they need to get through it.

So before everyone starts jumping on the bandwagon, grab a little persective and remember that for two.

I am well aware of what this is, thank you very much.

Unfortunately, as proved a few months ago - there are hundreds of other people on MN that are aware of what this is about.

It shouldnt be a taboo subject - but thats not what this thread is about, is it?

Asking for some sensitively poised titles is NOT alot to ask. Surely?

I feel appallingly sad for the little boy and his family. Nothing will detract for how dreadful a thing this is to have happened to them and they will be in my thoughts.

However, I don't think that not wanting to see thread titles like this is in some way belittling what has happened to him. I will do a link to the thread I started which explains my POV better.
