Epilepsy Action are launching a campaign today to promote awareness for epilepsy and what to do if you see someone having a seizure. A YouGov survey revealed that 88% of people would either actively do something wrong or would fail to take all of the right actions.

Epilepsy one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, so can I ask you all to take a look at Epilepsy Action's Website and take ACTION!

Not surprising the survey had such a bad result. I have met so many people who think they should try to depress someone's tongues, or try to stop them moving, or try to move them at all etc. There are a huge amount of misconceptions about epilepsy too. Its quite frightening.

When I was first diagnosed I had to tell colleagues not to restrain me during convulsions.

When I've been out with people and had seizures, they also often have to stop people call an ambulance at the drop of a hat. People just...panic, and completely over-react.

I agree that it's frightening. I've never had someone try and put something in my mouth, but knowing that there are people who think that is the right thing to do certainly makes me a little concerned when I go out.

and the other ill-informed assumption- "they cannot have epilepsy if they went to a nightclub".
