I am a dog lover, and it's sad, however I'm more upset about the 111 human police.

Do the dogs not have any protective clothing?

The police are praiseworthy and incredibly brave if you ask me but they do have a choice, albeit a tiny one.

The dogs have very little control over where they are and what they are doing.

The same goes for police horses.

It says it all about the rioters if they can hurt people, dogs and horses without a second thought.

Makes me laugh when people feel they have to say they feel more sorry for the human police. That goes without bloody saying. I was just speaking up for the poor animals, who don't have a choice and do an amazing job day in day out.

As I said, I am not an animal lover but watching those poor buggers (horses and dogs) I think they are marvellous. God knows what is going through their heads when they're faced with a mob of violent youths throwing things and starting fires.

Sad

There are many threads and many articles and much talk of the human police. The op is just saying she feels bad for the animals going in to combat with basically the fur on their backs too.

OP yanbu, It's very upsetting

I think the concern for the animals is a very British peculiarity.

The death of seven horses in the Hyde Park and Regents Park bombings went far deeper into the public psyche than those of the 11 military personnel who died that day too.

Though if course it's possible to care about both.

I suppose it comes down to choice though, if someone knowingly takes a risk it isn't seen as bas as some who had the decision made for them

it is sad that they have been injured but they can be very effective in controlling crowds which is why they are used.
I hope it isn't as bad tonight

Why is it peculiar, EdithWeston, to be concerned about the animals? As you said yourself, it is possible to care about both.

I think it's rather peculiar not to have concern for them. Because we have the ability to control them does not mean that we have the right to. We control children, but would it be right to send them into combat because we can? (You will say this is completely different, but that is your opinion, because you are human and obviously think that we have more of a right to life than an animal).

As I said, I am in no way an animal lover (I bet nobody believes me), and can't believe I'm having this discussion, but I really don't get why people think it is 'peculiar' to show concern for animals that are helping us clear up this mess. I suppose it's a debate for another day, but I don't get why people can't just say 'yes, poor animals' and leave it at that.

Well I for one hope the dogs , horses and police are not harmed, whereas i hope the criminal thugs get whats coming.

Sorry! I meant "peculiarly" as in characteristically British, not as in odd.

Apologies for causing confusion.

Anyone who diminishes the fear of animals is a knuckledragging cunt. Animals don't understand why they are being hurt for fuck sake

And yet a Police Officer left 2 dogs to die in his overheated car the other week. So what's the difference?
