I reckon that this could signal the beginning of the end of the Murdoch empire, regardless of the outcome.

Unlikely. He's certainly had his wings clipped, the public popularity of his businesses has taken a hit and he does not have the same sway over politicians right now, anxious to be seen to be matching the public mood. But if he cooperates fully in investigations, fires the key figures and the phonehacking papertrail doesn't go directly back to him then he can still emerge from the crisis, a reformed character, with quite a lot of his empire intact.

He is so old now that he has had all his best years and made all the money he and his family will ever need. He can just slope off now into retirement but probably not before he drops some people in it!

honestly? no. he's a canny operator. as i've said before, he's making what hay he can out of this. i think rather like queenie he's not exactly sure that any of his offspring have exactly his level of talent, so he'll hold on for as long as possible rather than step down to preserve the empire he built. indeed, i fully expect him to be a in strategy meeting when he does slip this mortal coil...

It should be if anyone in his company has bribed the police.He bears corporate responsibility and this culture of getting the story regardless of anything (how many suicides followed his stories?) started by his goodself is frankly unforgivable.

The truth is the man deserves bad karma and a lot else besides. Will it happen - no because he still has far too much info to blackmail our politicians and MPs. I don't think for a second his power has waned. Frankly for this alone I think the man and his executives should do time.

He won't of course, he can employ the best lawyers in the world with a half hearted prosecution he will no doubt get away with far too much.

The best hope lies with the american's who may indeed rattle his cage. After Enron they are a lot less frightened about going after white collared criminals.

The other thing that gives me hope this guy and his dodgy empire will get his just desserts is the fact we the public can get info from the internet. He cannot control that (yet be sure he will now make it his goal).
