I'm working on Hugh's Fish Fight (with small kids - wow - no easy thing) and the campaign is reaching a crucial point. TOMORROW the EU will announce the Fishing Plan for Europe. This is our big chance to show how strongly people feel about the need to protect both our fish stocks and our fishermen?s livelihoods... before it is too late.

If you have not already signed up ...please, DO SO NOW! At www.fishfight.net.

I support Hugh's Fish Fight www.fishfight.net because I'm pregnant at the moment and I want to ensure healthy oceans and fish stocks in the future for my children, and my children's children.

The campaign was launched on Channel 4 in January with programmes by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Jamie Oliver and other celeb chefs - did you see it/ hear about it? Basically it aims to stop the insane waste that goes on because of crazy EU regulations, which means that over half of the fish caught in the North Sea have to be thrown back dead. Imagine having a week's worth of food shopping and then throwing half of it in the bin - that's what it equates too. Madness.

Almost 700,000 people have already signed up but it still needs tons more to make an impact on the European Parliament in Brussels. There's a big event happening in Brussels this Weds (13th) with the first draft of the Common Fisheries Policy proposal being published and the campaign needs a lot of noise and signatures around it for then.

So if you haven't already please sign up to the campaign here www.fishfight.net and get your friends to do the same.

Thanks

I've signed but I doubt it will do any good. I'm afraid that the Spanish have the most powerful lobby and the EU tends to do what they tell it. Sad

I've heard that Fish Fight are going to launch in Spain as well and Germany and Poland and France... That's why it's more important than ever that we keep everyone signing up!! Spread the word! www.fishfight.net

thanks everyone

It's not all grim. We're making genuine headway with a progressive and radical EU Fisheries Commissioner, Maria Damanaki, at the healm. But she desparately needs the public to show their support through campaigns like Fish Fight to strengthen her in the face of the less enthusiastic members of the Commission and EU Parl. Sign up - It is DEFINITELY making a difference!

Signed up a while ago - hope you get some progress on this. Would be good if Channel 4 could have got behind it a bit with some sort of reminder / update programme.

There is a final Hugh's Fish Fight programme being made at the moment that will broadcast on Channel 4 sometime around beginning August. Definitely worth watching if you are interested.
