My dh actually cried when he listened to the press release about the wpc's family. I have always wanted to join the police and served as a Special 3-4 years ago before falling pregnant and I have always looked forward to a time when I could join the regulars. Her details, age, kids etc are so so similar to mine it brought dh to tears and he is begging me not to go in the police now.

Tragic .

Those who did it should be made to watch a video of the funeral and see exactly what how they've ruined so many lives.

this is sooo sad. My dh and ds are police officers so it really hits home.

Police get such flak but of course this is the other side of the coin - who expects, when going to work, that they may get shot?

extremely sad ... I am a police officer but on a 5 year career break after having two children. I will admit that returning to work after having the children amde me think twice about putting my life at risk for anyone . One reason why I took time off.

I'm in tears writing this , this is too close to home. My DH is also in the police he will be so upset when he hears this update .

BBC news annoyed me this morning when they reported the events of last night then followed it with the news about IPCC report about deaths of the public rising when they have contact with the police i.e death in custody, mental health issues and fatal road crashes when followed by police. I knw that this has to be address but not today surely !!

Very very sad news , I'm sure as Mums our thoughts are with her family regardless of whether you like the Police or not.

Dad and brother are police officers so it always send shivers down my spine to read things like this.

That poor, poor family

I'm still so shocked at how police are treated here sometimes. And fire brigade, medics, etc.

Every day, these people risk their lives to try to help people as best the law allows them to, not to mention giving up weekends, holidays, normal shift hours, etc. as part of their jobs.

Yet many are reviled by the very people they are trying to help. The law needs to go SO much further to protect them.

very sad, very very sad.

Mayher soul rest in peace, and may God give strength to her family and friends to cope with this loss.

So very sad. Her poor family. I really hope the other policewoman who was shot recovers OK - can't imagine what it must be like for her.

This is so sad. Can't type the words to say how I feel.

On her daughters birthday too.....she will never celebrate that day now. Every birtdhday in the future, her 18th, 21st will bring sadness.

So sad. No words really. DS is 4 and I just cannot imagine not being around for him.

SOMETHING needs to stop these bastards.

No apologies for language.
