That poor little chap and his family
I know exactly where that is as well, Not sure ? I thought the gaps were too small for children to fit through.

Oh my God! How dreadful.
I had a nightmare last night that my 20mth DS got lost in a shopping centre, truly dreadful.

Surely if stair bannisters in private homes have to be a certain size (width) to prevent this then so would shop railings? Particularly at such a height.

I doubt he was unattended his parent/s/carer were probably browsing nearby
very sad

zippy, where I originally come from "browsing near by" is just as dangerous as being unattended (plenty of child kidnappings etc).

This poor family. How dreadful.

its is terribly sad. Maybe we should go back to reins etc. I usually make my ds who is almost 3 go in his puschair in town

He may not have squeezed through them, possibly climbed over them. My DDs have attempted this in shops before.

Tbh, I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. I've never liked shopping centres with just waist-high rails - I'm a bit height-phobic and can always see an accident waiting to happen.

My local Asda gives me kittens. It has a walkway bridge to a new upstairs shopping area, passing over the original ground floor, about 12/15ft down. They often have stacked boxed goods arranged either side of the walkway, with lovely notices telling people not to allow their child to climb on them. Okay, people need to be responsible for their children but it would only take a moment's inattention for a child to climb onto those tempting boxes and disappear over the side. It makes my blood run cold.

i've been in that shop and no way could a child squeeze through the railing so maybe he climbed up and fell over, usually the displays are away from this area so maybe he climbed on a buggy or basket and toppled over the top.

i would never have thought that it was a risk my three year old and 8 year old have played near those rails while i shopped many a time, they have very similar ones int eh mexx store and fcuk next door. will be more careflu to watch them in future.
