Cleaning a really smoky oven

So, we have just moved and have a brand new double oven in our new place.
I have used the oven for heating up bread but last night I roasted a chicken.
Now Im guessing its because the oven is half the size but the fat was spitting everywhere (including from what I can gather onto the grill wavy bits at the top of oven)

I have just used the oven at lunch and the smell and smoke was unbearable , it set of fire alarm.

What and how can I clean it? and how do I properly clean the grill wavy bits?

Sorry, complete novice here. Is there a way I can avoid this in the future?
Thanks

I don't think you can use oven cleaner on the wavy bits, but it should be ok to wipe them with a cloth dipped in really hot water with washing up liquid.
Give them a good going over, wear rubber gloves and have the water as hot as you can bear. Then clean the rest of the oven as usual with oven cleaner.

To avoid this problem in the future you can cover the roast with foil or if you want a crispy skin put a baking tray on the top shelf and your chick on the middle shelf to minimise the fat spitting on the grill element(wavy bit).
Lakeland also do an oven liner to prevent the bottom of the oven getting too manky.

Ohh, fantastic. Thankks for the advice. A new Lakeland has just opened near by, so will go and have a look!

Get some oven pride to clean the inside of the oven. It is fantastic stuff.
