How to remove (loads of) felt tip pen from our lovely old pine table?

So our cumbersome, ridiculously clumsy cat jumped up onto the table in the middle of the night, knocked a glass of water over, which soaked through a drawing my son had done. As it had the whole night to soak in we now have the whole picture perfectly reproduced onto our old (as in antique) pine kitchen table. I don't want to sand it down as the wood will end up looking new, and I like the look of the old pine, but how can I get rid of the felt tip pen marks?

I scrub mine down with a scrubbing brush but it also has lots of burns/felt tip/paint and other unidentifiable stains on it. I am resigned to seeing it as a sign of a happy family life.

we got felt tip on ours. Unfortunately I think sanding is the only option. I just waxed ours again after and agree with moondog that they are just happy scars and memories
