Quick question, if you were invited to a BBQ would you care/notice what the house looked like?

We are having quite a few people round for a BBQ this week and a lot of these people haven't been to our house before. We are in the middle of having work done so the whole house is a bit grubby and unfinished looking.

Will anyone care/notice? Would you?

I would notice and care if it was dirty, really dirty, especially if the kitchen and bathroom where dirty.

It would be different if they where in the middle of having work done though and it was just the usual mess from that. That wouldn't bother me as long as the kitchen and bathroom where still clean.

I would notice/look to the extent that I would check if my toddler and baby were safe and I would care if I thought they might get hurt.

Other than that, no. If I was going without kids, I wouldn't mind about any of it.

I wouldnt really care. A really grimy bathroom/kitchen might make me care a little but no if it was just work being done rather than scum everywhere

No excuse for grubby if people are coming over, but the usual having work done mess wouldnt bother me

I wouldnt care if it was a bit dirty, as long as the bathroom was ok and not unhygenic or anything then a bit of mess isnt gonna hurt anyone.

Don't bother cleaning floors if you're all going to be tramping in and out from the BBQ!

Clean the loo that they're going to use. Clean the kitchen. If they're likely to come inside as it gets later then tidy (read: hide mess) in the rooms guests might sit in.

Try to perfect a breezy 'oh yes we're having some work done so it's not as nice as usual but we thought that seeing you was far more important than fretting about hoovering'.

Thanks, My biggest stress about it is the fact that the plasterer couldn't get the bathroom ceiling finished, so we have only got boards as ceiling with grubby hand prints on the walls (he is coming back thursday) It is all safe and i'm going to try to wipe the grubby marks off, but not sure if they will come off.

Dh is planning on inviting loads of people so it will probably be packed anyway, but i am worrying

however building work - and dirt - are not necessarily the same thing - one can tell the diference between a house that is being renovated - and a simply dirty minging house

I am a confessed slattern though so pretty much everyone's is better than mine
