Cling film on windows ??

Does it work ? Its so cold at night despite having crappy double glazing I am thinking of doing it .

Anyone know?

I did that at uni but it was on a sash window rather than double glazing. It kept out the drafts IIRC.

Hard work being in a cold house isn't it? I've got a bit obsessive about it and have even blocked up the ventaxia thing in the downstairs loo to keep out any little drafts from that.

I've had to do this in my freezing bedroom (massive sash windows that aren't double glazed), but I used polythene sheeting (from Homebase) stuck over the window with masking tape. Unsightly, but it's better than freezing. If your windows aren't huge then you could use that cling film stuff that you tighten with a hairdryer: that wouldn't look as bad as polythene!

I have lived here 10 years and have never known it bethis cold even before we had the .
double glazing and new doors put in .

Costing me a fortune in gas , although I should be grateful my Mum has been three days with no heating or hot water due to a fault on the meter that npower knew about last Saturday ...they have told her gas ia a luxury and to have a sandwich or a takeaway .

It has been especially cold of late.

And yes, heavy curtains are probably better if the problem really is your windows - especially if they're already double glazed.

We've got the stuff you tighten with a hairdryer - think we got it from Robert Dyas. It has definitely made a massive difference, it's just a bit of a faff.

Cling film thing is a bit of a nightmare to do - but well worth it (haven't actually tried to take it off again yet - hope it doesn't remove the paint as well) Also thermal linings from john lewis are brilliant (can make them yourself - material is about 5 pounds a metre)
