Washing balls - do you "boost" yours with anything?

We are about to go back to using washing balls after a spell with ecover again. We stopped using them before as they didn't seem to get things that clean anymore (probably needed refilling), but Ecover is costing us a fortune and also I am not that happy with the job it is doing.

So, do you boost your washing balls with anything? My main problem is that ds3 is still a baby is constnatly throws up milk. Ecover leaves all his stuff still smelling of milk. I am worried that the washing balls will be even worse.

Any tips?

I add white vinegar to the main wash and as a conditioner at the rinse, i found a long (2hr+) wash at 30º/40º worked best.

I can't choose the length of the wash on my machine. How much vinegar do you put in?

125ml in the main wash, i use a #2 wash which is about 2.30h, the #4 is just 45m.

And as much in the conditioner space as if it was comfort etc.

I don't boost mine. However......if there is something rather greasy in the washing I swap the ball for a bit of eco washing powder. But for all the other washing then I just use the ball.

Hope that makes sense.

Sorry i am not convinced they work. A friend user them and her clothes stink!
She swears by them - obviusly does not notice the smell

nula I can assure you that I or my family do not smell. Hope that's not what you're implying?

Not implying any such thing unless you are the friend I am referring to

I should do the same before I start preaching!

I did try washing balls but did not find they cleaned better than just water in the machine. I am incredibly mean with detergent though, and use about a quarter of the suggested amount .

I am off to sniff my own laundry

I don't boost my washing balls with anything, I find they do a good enough job on their own. Mine came with a stain remover which you have to rub onto stains and leave to soak for 10 mins before doing a wash. I('ve never had to use it so far.

I wouldn't wash really dirty things with balls though, I would use detergent. (or maybe balls + half quantity of detergent?)
