How long does a doggy smell lest?

We have just moved house and the previous occupants kept dogs and a cat. The smell of dog is overwhelming and I can't figure out why or how to shift it. I've tried thorough cleaning, windows open to air when we are not in and scented candles which just mask the smell while they are lit.

I am pregnant so don't want to use chemical solutions like febreeze. Can anyone reassure me that it will fade quickly?

Title should obviously read how long will it last

It is like a wet dog smell...

Did they leave any soft furnishings behind? Could be the smell is in the carpets?

No soft furnishings were left - the carpets have been professionally cleaned but I guess the smell must be still coming from them...

More than likely, it is so hard to get doggy smells out. Is it worth trying another clean? If they are decent carpets you want to save then I think it would be worth a try but wouldn't hold out too much hope as the smell is probably in the underlay as well.

I am a dog owner/lover but appreciate the smell is pretty off-putting!

When we moved into our new rented house the smell of dog was made worse when we cleaned the carpets.

You can buy specialist neutralising spray but this would heavy chemicals I would have thought.

Unfortunately we ended up having to get the landlord to replace.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

Damn, I was hoping the smell would fade away.
