steam washing machines - are they better than ordinary machines?

Am thinking about buying one of the new steam washing machines (LG, I think). Can't find any reviews (only a journalist type, which mentions it being similar to dry cleaning!!). Does anyone have one and are there any real benefits, as they are more expensive than 'normal' machines?

i ordered the LG steam machine (in black) 2 years ago after i had just moved into our new home with a 6 week old baby... i also ordered a black dishwasher to 'match'. after the machine was delivered and used for about 3 days it broke down - comet sent another, same fault, same time used. took delivery of the 3rd machine again same fault after a week. 2months later and many a shed tear en-route to laundrette, comet refunded me the £800 odd for the LG machine and i went out and bought an Aqaultis (?) no problems.

i did loads of research, but the fact was, that the steam could only be used on certain washes and certain garments - as i recall - but might be remixing...things like quilt covers and jeans etc still needed to be ironed or hung up straight away like you had just taken them out of the tumble drier.
hope this helps.

Many thanks for that - has made up my mind! Will save my pennies and just get an ordinary one. Need to get it sorted pretty quickly, as old machine is starting to leak...
