Wash machine leaving greasy marks on clothes - is it terminal? Please advise?

My washing machine has been leaving greasy marks on our clothes for a few months, and sometimes we get violent banging sounds from it too. Am keen not to repeat recent microwave debacle, when we spent more repairing the sodding thing than it cost, and all within 13 months of buying it . Having said that, shame to consign it to knackers yard and an eternity of eco guilt, if it's easily fixed. Cost of repair man visit (if I knew one) is probably about a third of cost of a new machine, and ours is about 7 years old (living on borrowed time?). What's the advice - get new one (possibly with attraction of larger capacity? does this mean you get lots of half loads that then don't rinse properly) - or find someone to take a look at it? Thanks for your advice

How is the cost of a visit a 1/3 of a machine- round here it's about £40! What sort of machine is it? Some manufacturers have deals with repair folks which cost you more than your local chaps. Sounds like you could have a leak between the rotating drum and the drive belt (now that sounds like I know what I'm talking about but I don't - I just had that happen to me with the same symptoms and it cost £50 with parts to fix).

look at this link it should help...

We paid £40 for a callout to repair our 10yo machine - parts cost was about £6 on top - and now it is as good as new .

I'd find someone to look at it if I were you. If you really want to get rid instead of fix I would recommend you advertise it on your local freecycle group - someone will snap it up I'm sure. I'm sure some people are making money on refurbing non-working machines on my group as they are taken within minutes of being listed.....
