Iron burn on carpet - help!

climbanymountain · 07/07/2008 13:52

Last night, I dropped the steam iron on the carpet of a house we are renting. It was only literally for a second but it has left the distinct imprint of the iron with black burn marks where the steam holes are. The carpet also feels rough.

Does anyone know of a cleaner or similar to get rid of the 'stain' and burns?

I shall be waving goodbye to my deposit otherwise.

You can't 'clean' a burn mark out of a carpet. It has burnt the carpet, that is permenant.

Sorry for the bad news.

depending on the depth of the pile of the carpet, you could get a very sharp razor blade or scalpel (from art shops) and "shave" off the burnt bits. Take a tiny bit off otherwise you'll have a dent in the carpet. Other than that, there's not much else you can do.

Goodbye deposit.

At least you don't have to worry about DC's spilling on the carpet now!

aren't you insured?

even if it's a rented house, you should have contents insurance

(a new carpet would probably be less than your deposit, though)

when you shave off the burn the mark should go but you have to be verrrryy careful you don't take too much off otherwise you'll end up with a dip in the carpet.

thanks for advice headfairy.

I don't want to use household insurance really as have long no claims built up. You're right that carpet may be cheaper than deposit loss. We've only been there 2 days!
