DESPERATE please help - black mould around shower

I'm getting so desperate and fed up. We have black mould around our shower, we had it all redone and now it's in the process of all coming back. Please share your best tips on removing it that actually work! I've tried

Products specifically for black mould
Baking soda
Vinegar

None of these have helped at all. Do I need to leave them on for longer? Are there any particular tricks?

I'm scared of bleach because of the toxic fumes it can produce... But none of the non bleach options seem to actually work?

Is this a lost cause or can anyone help?

Bleach. Sorry!
Thick bleach with kitchen roll so it makes a wodge of bleach soaked paper and leave it. Remove and rinse

Two things I did (separately) 1- take off all the sealant, clean and reseal (I'm assuming your mould is on the sealant?) 2 - used kitchen roll soaked in bleach and left on overnight.

Option 2 worked best for me and I have used it since.

Dettol mould and mildew remover. It contains bleach though. Don’t even have to scrub it just dissolves it. Keep bathroom window open for ventilation all year round of possible. But yes you will probably have to keep doing it periodically.

Dettol Mold & Mildew Remover - apply generously and open al your doors and windows. You may lose your voice for a while if you breathe it in but no scrubbing is needed. Cillit Bang do a version as well.

Agree that specific mould/mildew remover is the only way to get rid of it. But you need to sort out what’s causing it too, or it will just recur.
The usual problems are inadequate ventilation and persistent dampness. Open the window during/after showers if you have one, and if not then install a powerful extractor fan or upgrade the one you have. If you have time/can be bothered, you could run a cloth round the shower sealant to dry it off after showering, but you really shouldn’t need to if the ventilation is up to scratch.

HG mould spray. Shits all over the other brands. Makes your bathroom smell like a swimming pool. Think it's chlorine based. Disappears mould in seconds.

the Dettol one is good we got some wooden units out of the garage the other day and they had mould on them, Dettol spray killed all the mould dead, I don't know about if toxic to kids but my cats behaved like I had sprayed catnip all over they were going loopy trying to get into the drawers

Someone mentioned on here years ago bleach (sorry!) mixed with bicarb in a paste, it's brilliant.

sounds strange but I had some mould & got rid of it using sterilising tablets for baby bottles! Put about 4 of them in a spray bottle with hot water & used that with a cloth & it never came back!

I swear by them & thats all I use to clean my bathroom/floors/drains!

Old toothbrush plus bleach. Worked well for me every time.

And ventilate the room as much as possible or it will come back nearly guaranteed.

Whatever mould and mildew remover you fancy but as mentioned above soak some kitchen roll in it and squidge it in against the mould and leave for however long it takes.

Dry off tiles and surrounding area every single time you have a bath or shower.

Leave it on at least as long as it says on the bottle (longer is ok) and do it more than once.

But be very very careful not to get any of it on clothes (bitter experience )

I do toothbrush and vinegar.
cup of vinegar, dip in, scrub, dip in. Leave to dry (I do it in the morning and shower the next day / evening) and wipe over / clean as normal.

It was the only thing that worked on mine (rented house with 50 + year old tiling!) not bleach or the mould sprays.

Needed doing every 3-6 months.

can you post a pic of the fan? What are the dimensions of the room?

A shower needs quite a powerful fan, most are inadequate. You may get by by running it continuously. Modern fans can be very quiet and use very little electricity. How is yours turned on? Is it noisy?

More powerful ones are bigger, and can be fitted either above the ceiling with a duct (if you have room) or they need a bigger hole in the wall.

Fans are more effective if both door and window are shut.

Spray from Lakeland works. I can’t take the fumes. I sprayed and had to leave as I am asthmatic. I told DH he will have to do it.
