Has anyone got one? They look great, I love the idea of just hanging my clothes in one to dry. I’m not sure though if they’re energy efficient (compared to a tumble dryer) and generally effective. They don’t seem very common.

There was one in the communal laundry on the Scandinavian council estate where I used to live. (Along with a couple of massive tumble driers, 4 industrial sized washing machines, a spin drier, giant sinks, and a couple of snazzy electric mangle thingies that were brilliant for pressing things like bed sheets, table cloths and curtains.)
It was very good for drying jumpers and things that weren't suitable for tumble drying. I assume it must have been energy efficient or it wouldn't have been there. A washing slot was 4 hours long, so if you had big thick jumpers it was best to snare the last slot in the evening, so that your stuff could be left in the drier overnight. It had a timer so it didn't stay heated all night but everything would be dry at the crack of dawn when you had to go back and collect your washing or face the wrath of the person who'd booked the early morning slot. I assume it must have been energy efficient, because the council cared about stuff like that.

Not really sure what it is but I just stick a dehumidifier in a room with my laundry and it dries overnight. So really any cupboard or small to medium space could potentially be a drying “cupboard”

My MIL used to have one which was ancient. She called it the 'flatley' which I guess was a brand name at the time. It was very efficient at drying though you couldn't get much in there at a time. I'd have one now if there was a modern equivalent.
