Stale smell on wooden blinds

I bought some good quality wooden blinds second hand. They looked fine when up, however have a strange sort of dirty smell. I've now cleaned with diluted Ammonia with tiny bit of washing up liquid and lots of dirt came off, ( I'd obnoxiously cleaned them before hanging them just clearly not that well!) Ive rinsed well and left the window open behind then for 24 hours. The smell is still there although not as bad. I think the previous owners may have been smokers. Do I need to cut my losses and chuck these or can anyone suggest something else I can use to get rid of or even disguise the smell until my own house smells take over please?

Diluted Zoflora? Quick wipe over will maybe help.

That was my thinking and I've been burning a candle near too. I think it's working!
