Is Dyson the best brand to go for or does anyone have another super cordless vacuum cleaner?

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out vacuum cleaners, so here's our round-up of the best cordless vacuum cleaners available to buy now.

I hate my cordless Dyson! Sucks up hardly anything, then clogs with the things it does suck up. I have gone back to my dyson upright and use cordless for the stairs only

Bosch. Very light weight too. 3 levels for smooth floors or carpets. Effortless to use.

Dyson is ok for hard floors with no kids and no pets. We have reverted back to a cord shark. Bloody love it.

Another bosch vote. Mine works as well as our miele cat and dog on dog hair. Tools are a bit annoying but that is literally the only downside is can think of.

Another Bosch vote, had it since October, no loss of suction, three levels of suction, easy to empty and clean. Love it!

My friend raves about the gtech but I don't fancy it being plugged in for charging for long periods. Her hand held one comes as part of the large one.

Yes the gtech and dyson cordless seem similar in the sense they are cordless and have a smaller cordless as well as upright cleaner

Bosch Athlet - fantastic. I absolutely love mine.

Its light, it picks up so much, its easy to use, I have never had such a powerful cleaner.

My dyson got sent to the shed of shame for being so shit, spent more time declogging it than actually vacuuming. Got a Gtech now and love it.

I bought the Bosch Athlet based on a thread here and I love it. I love it so much I bought one for our holiday home too. I have a dog that sheds loads and this has transformed my life!

I hate the bosch athlet too. I like it. But I bought the basic one with no tools. I need to buy an accessory kit but grudge paying the money for it.
It's good on my carpet and I particularly like how easy it is to cut my long hairs off the brush bit. Much easier than my old dyson.

I have the pet version of Bosch Athlet which has the most accessories and this is what I found so far:

Pros:

• the weight is on the floor instead of in your hand like the dyson so its less tiring
  
• its very light so i find it easy to lug it up and down the stairs all day
  
• pretty easy to clean the filter and the brush but I havent experienced this on the dyson so I cant compare
  
• its got a whopping 60min charge on low which is more than enough suction for daily/spot cleaning on our hard floors. There are also 2 models with 75min run time
  
• on power lvl 2 it seems to do a great job with pet hairs on carpets
  
• its much much cheaper than dyson. I got mine on discount + 50euro cashback for half the normal price, 1/3rd of 600euro dyson v8 (i live in the NL so our prices are a bit different). Even v6 is a lot more expensive here and on a ridiculous 20min run time
  

Cons:

• the bottom of the vacuum is too thick to go under any furniture unlike the dyson
  
• the pet version comes with a shorter handle you can supposedly switch out the long one with but it takes herculean effort to do so. I have to ask hubby to do it everytime so i cant do non-floor vacuuming on the fly
  
• dyson has a lot more seperate attachments you can buy
  
• with the shorter handle you get a strap that attaches to the vacuum via a velcro hoop so you can hang it on your back and use the various attachments on the car/stairs etc. I find the velcro super unreliable as its already starting to lose its "power" an dim terrified the whole thing is going to go flying down 2 flights of stairs
  
• the "handheld" (backheld?) use feels very awkward in general, hard to put down anywhere, no handle, cant reach the on/off button on my back or change the attachments so I have to take it on and off every time
  

Overall, the Athlet is fantastic for vacuuming floors and great value for money especially if you dont buy the attachments. But its pretty cumbersome to do stairs/curtains/car etc with. We dont have most UK or US brands over here at the so I can only compare it to dyson.

I have the Dyson V6 and love it (they have only just started selling the V8 where I live). Without it I would be tempted to make my toddler eat every meal in the garden
