How can I clean filthy and discoloured vertical blinds?

Hi

I've inherited some vertical blinds from the previous owner of my house and I don't know if its becuase they were smokers but they have gone a bit yellow and are just generally mucky too.

Does anyone know an easy and effective way of cleaning them without individually wiping each one!

TIA

I take mine off the window once in a while and put them in a bath of washing powder. Brings them up lovely but am interested to hear what others do with them.

Ohh! That's genius! what and Fatima

I hadn't even thought of actually taking them off. Duh!

I'm off to do it now. Sad I know! but it has been bothering me for months!

Just hope the discolouring goes too.
Will report back! Thx again! Smile

Are they the fabric ones? If so I put mine in the washing machine on a gentle 30 degree wash once or twice a year and they come up beautifully. Just remember to lay them flat in the machine together ie not all tangled together, that way they won't crease. Take them out immediately and hang them to dry on the window. I have been doing it for years .

No they are those plasticy ones. Fabric ones sound much nicer!

Sorry by fabric I just meant not wooden or hard plastic ones Grin. Roller blind fabric I guess would be a better description? Anyway I wash them in the machine!

Well they came up so much cleaner which I was really pleased with but I think I need to do another soak in bleach again. The eater had turned a mucky yellow. It was truly disgusting!

However, this evening I hunf the blinds up again and I have a bit of a kink where I hung them up over the door. But that's not even my main problem, the damn blinds won't turn with string thing. They open bit don't turn around if that makes sense! I have no idea what I have done!
