Best non bio for eczema

Surcare or Waitrose essential concentrated non bio

We used to use Filetti - pink bag - not sure if you still get it. My sibling had excema and that was what was recommended then, but about 20 years ago.

Doesn't always have to be non bio either. I have read it is the perfumes that can cause an issue rather than the enzymes

I've always used Fairy as DS had eczema when he was younger, I remember my mum washing something for me in something else and bloody hell it was noticeable!

Ecover Zero maybe helped my DS. Although I've only managed to find it at Ocado/elsewhere online recently.

We use Fairy tablets, unfragranced and non-bio, I don't like liquids because they make the drawer gunky or I lose the thing you fill and put in the drum.

I have found dd2 and my eczema has improved since using powder and washing on a higher temperature, and for longer (ie not using the 30 minute eco washes) so that the clothes are rinsed really well.

I think the liquid was clogging up the machine, which meant the clothes weren't washing properly. We had tried every sort of liquid including surcare and ecover.

We use Fairy non bio and Own brand bio if clothes are really stained.

I find Fairy too strongly fragranced. Not necessarily an issue for eczema but I just don't like it.

I just had a quick look at the Fairy tablet and they do apparently have perfume but I have to say I can't smell it and I'm the biggest hater of fragranced laundry products there is, I can't bear so much as a whiff of them.

The Bio element of the detergent isn't actually what causes the irritation, it's the perfumes used. Non-bio doesn't exist anywhere in the world apart from in the UK, it's the only place that it still has a market. It's was sheer coincidence that non-bio had less perfumes than bio, but has since become a marketing ploy.

The only non-bio I've found that is anywhere near the level of bio's for washing is Persil Non-Bio powder.

Ps. liquids being thicker and heavier than water never fully disolve in the wash water, so they're an absolutely swine to rinse out, which is another thing that causes irritation. Powder will rinse out easier.

I found the perfumes made my DD'S eczema worse. Best I've found are Simply Pure tabs (in a pink bag not the Simply Sensitive which is perfumed and I think a blue bag). Sainsbury's stock them but not sure where else. Second choice is Surcare which is more widely available.

I always find own brand powders far better for ds's skin with no difference in wash quality & about half the price.

With DS2 we found Ecover, Fairy, Persil and Tesco's own non bio to be fine for his skin, when he was a baby we always used to use Bold and he was fine with it up until very recently, also I noticed Bold is utter shite!

Missingsleepandthecat I agree about Bold. Masks the smell of the dirt by being so heavily scented you can smell it from 3 streets away but doesn't actually wash anything

we use bio anyway.
we find that it is rinsing that makes the most difference for us.
short cycles are often bad because they only rinse once or twice.

I prefer fairy out of the two main non bios (wouldnt go for store branded)

Fairy leaves clothes really soft, whereas persil non bio leaves them feeling like cardboard (this is using softener with fairy or persil)

Oddly, persil bio does not leave them feeling like cardboard not helpful

Bold used to be an excellent detergent, and i still do like it, but its performance has slipped in recent years.

We use Ecover tablets. Extra rinse cycle and no fabric softener. Use drying balls in tumble dryer.

Ecover and only use it every second wash if the clothes aren't too dirty.
Try washing without washing powder or liquid for one wash and see how much is still in the machine.
My father was under the specialist at one of the London hospital and they said to rinse everything twice

e1y1 Ecover and Fairy are the main ones I/he tends to use for his stuff, both work well. I do agree RE Fairy leaving washing softer than Persil non bio!

I use method fragrance free for my DS and method peony for myself as it smells beautiful
My son has severe eczema and perfume seems to set him off. The method seems to get rid of all the stains and isn't expensive.
