Cooking a chicken or sausages ? I like to make best use of oven but don't always need two cakes !!!or buns etc ... Feels wrong but Wd like to settle this one !

Yes, if I have the oven on, I would use the second shelf to cook something else.

I've had two things in the oven at the same time several times, never was an issue.

I cooked a pizza and a fruit crumble at the same time the other day, I was dubious at first as well. But turned out fine.

My wise old mother taught me that for efficiency you should always try to fill your oven. Roast and pudding in at the same time - why waste all that lovely heat. Never had a cross contamination taste thing ever.
