Can anyone identify what is living on my carpet?

In areas which are covered like under the sofa, I keep finding small white soft things which look and are the size of grains of white rice. I kept hoovering them up but then decided to collect some and put them in a jar to see if they were larvae which would transform into some sort of bug. I could see that there were tiny caterpillar-like creatures in the white 'cocoon' but then they stopped wriggling and eventually died after a few days. The caterpillers had black heads. Have googled 'carpet bugs' and images do not match up to anything I have seen. Any ideas?

Carpet moths? If so, good luck! You might need professional help.

Im afraid they are the moths that destroy your carpets/clothes/anything with wool in them. Very, very tricky to get rid of I'm afraid. Actually, impossible in my case!

Carpet moths. Been there, done that, have fewer jumpers and a patchy carpet to show for it!

I agree, moths. Found them under a wicker basket in DD's room, 3 weeks after we laid the carpet. Sad
I did get rid of them though by steaming the carpet every day for a week and then every week for a couple of months. They have not returned and I am super vigilant.
The carpet was left with horrid patches but luckily only under the basket, which I disposed of pretty quick!

Good Luck!

Sounds like the moths we had. They love dark spaces so under the sofa is ideal moth territory. I ripped my carpet out to get rid of them.
