Windowlene - I want some NOW!

Ok, I'm not really going to clean my windows at midnight, but seriously what's happened to it? I mean good old fashioned, lovely smelling purple cream windowlene. The stuff you used to smear on, wait till it was dry and rub off. The only thing that used to work for me and get my windows sparkling without great bloody smears all over. I haven't been able to get it for ages.

I can't find it anywhere, I keep asking people and they keep helpfully saying things like 'oh yeah, windowlene, I'm sure I've seen it in shops'. Yes but WHERE. I don't need anymore helpful window cleaning tips, I've tried vinegar (both myself and my house end up smelling like a chip shop), I've tried newspaper (black hands and smeary windows), I've resorted to normal glass cleaner and it's just not the same!

I want clean windows and to be transported back to my childhood where my dear Mum, whose now been gone nearly 23 years, would hang out of our windows cleaning them once a month. Nothing reminds me so much of my childhood then the smell of windowlene :)

Has anyone seen any................................. (Willing to pay black market prices)

Wilko seems to have it on line, I only know that as your post made me check to see if I can get it here (US) Smile

OMG. Thank you so much goinggreyagain! I wonder if they sell it in store, I haven't seen it on my windowlene shopping missions. I will go into my local store tomorrow to check. If not I will order online, possibly in bulk, ÂŁ2.40 a bottle and free delivery if you spend over ÂŁ80 ( frantically tries to calculate how many bottles that will get her).

Mr Muscle!! How dare you use that word in the same sentence as the sacred 'W'word Shock

Seriously though, is it a cream or a liquid spray? I just can't seem to get on with the spray cleaners. Also, I'm missing that smell. I have tonight tried sniffing germolene, which sounds similar, is purple AND smells, but it's just not the same (and I can't clean my windows with it....)

Do you really let it dry?

I buy it for ÂŁ4 a bottle at a small independent hardware shop.

goodasitgets · 11/01/2014 01:30

Amazon sells it at ÂŁ13 for pack of 3 it about ÂŁ4 individually (purple bottle?)

My god, I'm going to have to use it sparingly if I have to get it online, it could work out expensive!

sydlexic yes l leave it till it's almost dry (totally dry if you're decorating and have taken your 'nets ' down - childhood memories again Smile). Hadn't thought of hardware stores, we have one locally so somewhere else to check tomorrow.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions, I am going to go to sleep now and have happy dreams of the sacred purple smelly stuff!

We have a bottle of it lurking at the back of the cupboard and I hate it, with a passion. I find it really smeary. I really like Method glass spray.

Water and vinegar or better still just use an ecloth cleaning and then polishing cloth

I use proper windolene cream. My aunt lives near a shop that sells it and she gave me a bottle. It's brilliant. Lidl is my second favourite

Oh, I'd forgotten the smell of Windolene, I'd love my car to smell of it, too. Must check out Home Bargains next time I stock up on loo rolls. I've got a Karcher Window Vac for quick cleans, but I like to do a thorough job, including frames on my odd un-slatternly days.

Was going to say the same Gene.

I would put money on it that I saw it in home bargains and I think it was ÂŁ1.99 a bottle.

I couldn't get out to the shops this weekend so It will have to wait till Thurs. I might phone Wilko's, not sure I can stand the suspense.

GeneHuntismyloveslave that is so kind thank you. Where are you? I am in London/S. Herts. I don't think I've ever seen a Home Bargains - are they everywhere? They have Ajax as well, I think I'm going to pass out Smile

Why don't they sell it in supermarkets anymore? Is it that out of fashion?

I'm in south Wales, they do have a store locator facility on their website to see if there's one near you but the offer stands if you want

Blimey tableau products just seen your data sheet. Hope nobody puts it down the drain. I'll stick with the hot water vinegar and newspaper method.
