I don't. What's your view? Modern non-stick pans seem to say it's ok but does it shorten their useful life?

I do if I'm lazy/busy, but I think it does ruin the non-stick coating.

bought brilliant baking trays from laleland (bakingenious range) -thank goodness they don't fit in the dishwasher, I'm not tempted to put them in!

you can polish the inside with half a drop of cooking oil on kitchen roll after washing, it helps reseal the surface.

Ok will try that. Does it actually protect the coating?

it seems to restore the nonstickiness to some extent. When they come out off the dishwasher the surface is very matt (unless they are still new) and prone to stick and burn. Polishing with oil seems to seal the pores or whatever it is. You can do that on iron or enamel too, but stainless will always stick. You can put them away after polishing.

they probably last better handwashed.

Yes, but I only ever have cheap frying pans.
