Oven causing eyes to sting.

The last couple of times that I have used the oven to cook anything involving fat-Yorkshire puddings and roast duck today- both dp and I are suffering from stinging eyes, I'm now reluctant to use the oven again because I have a 3 month old ds in the house, is it the oven? Baking trays? I'm inclined to replace the oven (electric) and the baking trays, it's weird though because it doesn't happen so much when we cook dryer food. What do you think? I have thought about getting it deep cleaned but there are some really good deals on ovens and for an extra 80 odd quid I could replace the oven.

When my oven needs a clean then I tend to get stingy eyes too, always goes away after I clean it, save your money and do it yourself, its not that hard really.

yes, it is smoke from the burning fat. It needs cleaning. Also satisfy yourself that the door is sealing properly all round - there will probably be a heat-proof rubbery seal on the "doorframe." There will be a vent for the cooking fumes to escape, it might be concealed behind the handle. older ovens used to have the vent on the back, but these put greasy marks on the wall behind.

If you have an extractor or cooker hood, use it, obv.

You can just clean it with ordinary oven cleaning stuff from the supermarket. It's strong though so it is a good idea to do it when the dc are in bed. I take all the shelves out and do them all outside.
